When a bully beats up a child, or when a man is raping a woman, or when defenseless babies are being murdered, or when a tyrant is dropping bombs on innocent civilians – WE MUST ACT.
If we have the ability to act, then we have the responsibility to act. If we don’t, aren’t we complicit in the harm being done?
Some people live where addiction, homelessness and violence are only a door away. But for most of us the TV is the closest we get to seeing the great pain people are going through.
The Bible tells us: Rescue those being led away to death. Hold back those staggering towards slaughter. If you say “But we knew nothing about this”, does not He who weighs the heart perceive it? Does not He who guards your life know it? Will He not repay each person according to what he has done? Proverbs 24:11-12
How can we respond to this command? How can we respond to the innocent civilians being murdered in Ukraine? Or the innocent babies being killed in our very own town – and around the world? There are three things we can do. We can pray, give and go. Praying is something we can all do. Going is a bit more difficult – especially in these days of Covid. But giving is something that most of us can do.
